NOTEBOOK | CHAPTER 01

On Film, Fashion, and Creative Perspective

Creative Director at AGI Denim

For the inaugural chapter of Notebook, we step into the creative mind of Aylin Sibel Beyce, Creative Director at AGI Denim, as she shares a glimpse into the distinct influences shaping her perspective today.

In a world that never stops moving, I’ve been thinking a lot about the importance of slowing down and finding inspiration beyond the endless scroll.

Lately, I’ve been drawn back to cinema. After years of consuming quick, digital, impatient content, I’ve rediscovered my love for thoughtful movies and the slower, more intentional pace they demand. There is something deeply impactful about fully immersing oneself in an artist’s vision, witnessing the meticulous synergy required to build a story through set design, editing, score, and acting.

My subscription to MUBI, the independent film platform, constantly surprises me with unexpected gems. I’ve also been blown away by the curated selections on WeTransfer’s creative platform, WePresent, which is a good site to check out.

What inspires me most is how film marries color, atmosphere, and narrative to evoke raw emotion. In many ways, designing a fashion collection is just like filmmaking: both require building an entirely new world from the ground up. I’m endlessly fascinated by how ideas fluidly migrate across fashion, art, design, and culture, constantly evolving into new forms. Right now, I am particularly captivated by the Pop Craft aesthetic, its over-the-top, bright, colorful collages are wonderfully fun, vibrant, and beautifully ridiculous.

The Rise of Playful Contrasts

What feels most exciting in fashion right now is the way references from entirely different eras are colliding, effortlessly fusing elements of the ’70s, ’90s, and Y2K into a single look.

I Love Boosters: Movie’s vibrant colors and Y2K-inspired aesthetic create a playful, nostalgic world full of personality.

Amidst these shifts, denim remains the ultimate constant thread, whether we are celebrating its heritage roots or pushing it into unexpected territories. Because denim isn’t traditionally associated with formal tailoring, using it in an elevated, structured way feels incredibly fresh. It possesses a unique duality: it can be paired with literally anything, yet it always maintains its distinct character. There is nothing frivolous about denim, so it allows the wearer to pair it with ridiculous things.

A More Thoughtful Bold

Even though fashion appears visually louder right now, I believe it has actually become more introspective. We continue to rework familiar styles because there is comfort in the known, but the modern reinterpretations are becoming much more personal, wonderfully strange, and deeply considered.
